I was made to leave Scobee at George Bush Park last night

Postby jimmie-whittaker » Mon Mar 12, 2018 5:07 am

I posted this on the Facebook page:
I got (nicely) kicked out of the Scobee street area in George Bush Park at about 1:00 A.M. by a precinct 5 Constable. The entrance on Barker Cypress had already been locked when I had gotten there earlier and Buster Wilson told me about the Scobee area one street West. The officer said he had to lock all of the gates to the park because of recent delinquency and litter and had not heard of any sort of allowance for H.A.S. members to be out there after closing time. He suggested contacting precinct 3 at http://www.pct3.com/hike-bike-trails/ge ... bike-trail to possibly make arrangements for us if we know ahead of time that we will be out there. He also suggested Cullen Park on Saums Rd. and said that we probably wouldn't be bothered over there. I am pretty sure myself that they lock the gate to the North area (darker side of the park) at night but maybe the area next to Saums is accessible, I don't know. I did get about an hour or so of messing around and got the Skyfi III hooked up and worked out a few problems so it wasn't a total loss. Oh, the sky cleared up pretty well just as I was setting up. Maybe some "higher-ups" can get something sorted out with the authorities?

I've been to Paul D Rushing park with my dog. It's been a while, but I remember wide open flat areas. If the lights over the Cricket pitch is out, i bet its pretty nice! Light pollution map shows it a couple of steps down from the white-zone George Bush park. Rushing park is the green rectangle in the upper left.

I'm going to have to get out there, too!

I went out there to the dog park again today. Wide open and flat, no lights over the cricket fields on the east side, but plenty of lights over the baseball fields in the middle and on the west side. There are gates across the entrances to each of the parking lots accessible from the road on the north side of the park and signs that clearly prohibit use of the park at night. I hope that's not the end of the possibilities of using the park! It looks pretty good otherwise.

Ok, I have been out of town for a week. I am going to re double my efforts to get the Urban Observing going again at GBP I am not ready to let this go. We were observing there before so we should be able to wiggle back in if we try hard enough.

I need a little help and some input from all of you.

My suggestion is to get about 5-8 people to show up and set up just like we used to, but be prepared to be kicked out(or Not).
My reasoning is we used to do this, the previous officers didn't have a problem. Weather closed down the park and maybe law enforcement has been a little edgy.
Maybe a group would be less worrisome than a lone person?

That being said this Thursday looks good to try. If I can get 5-8 (or more) to take a chance and not be too disappointed if we get kicked out, I'll be willing to try.

Jimmy this should be fixed now but its always best to go with a group not alone. Please let me know if you are going to be there and I'll try and get a group to observe that night.
