I'm the new astronomer replacing Gordon Houston at the Schaefer Observatory just down the street from the HAS Dark Site.

The telescope is a 14" SCT, fork mount, and has another link to the Houston Astronomical Society. Clayton Jeter " restored the college’s ‘70s-era Celestron C-14 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope." For a related story, see this article from the 2011 GuideStar: https://www.astronomyhouston.org/newsle ... -interview.

The telescope has a clock-drive but not GoTo so one needs to know the sky. It'll take awhile to learn to view that sky a couple of hours RA at a time, though. It's a classic dome. I'll post when I'm holding star parties there in case you want to join for outreach...lots of kids with their parents, I'm told.
