Drove by George Bush Park for the first time

Postby jimmie-whittaker » Sun Apr 16, 2017 4:14 am

I drove by there for the first time last night just to familiarize myself with where it was. It was cloudy and after 10 PM but as I stated, I just wanted to check it out. There was a gate and a sign that said the park was open til dusk but the gate was open. So I drove down there. Do they actually lock that gate? I would hate to get locked in there some night. Also, where do people set up? In that small area just south of the parking or in that huge area North of the parking area?

Steve Munsey is probably one of the better people to answer that question, as he hosts Urban Observing star parties out there from time to time. I would suggest sending him a private message. Also, once you've been in the club a couple of months, you'll be able to take the orientation course to get access to our very own dark site observatory.

Hello Jimmie,

The park does not lock the gate. Most of the time the local Sheriffs Deputy will drive by and check on us. You can go out there any time but I would suggest asking there are several members including me that will meet you there to help. If not keep watch over the Facebook, Net Slyder, and here for semi regular meet ups at George Bush Park.

Ok, thanks Steve. If I don't have to work I may go out there Sat. Or Sun. evening if the sky is clear. The last I looked it won't be clear until 3 a.m. Sunday morning but should be clear Sunday night.
