Planetary Nebulae

Planetary Nebulae just might be my favorite class of object. Such variety, and such pretty shapes (and even a little color sometimes). Of course, I could observe the Dumbbell Nebula (M27) or the Ring Nebula (M57) for quite some time and not get bored... who doesn't love those objects? But other than those brightest ones, what are your favorites? A few weeks back when I was out at the site observing with Mark Ferraz, I observed NGC 1535 for the first time, and really enjoyed the double-ring structure of it. But one that I REALLY liked was NGC 7008 in Cygnus; its irregular shape was really quite intriguing.

Although I have not seen it visually NGC 7635 the Bubble nebula is pretty cool. Looks like a 16" minimum to see it.

I think that's a little conservative from what I've heard, but I haven't seen it myself (haven't tried though). However, despite its appearance, 7635 is actually not a planetary!

Your right and I thought about afterwards but at 4am I wasn't thinking to clearly (let the dog out at 2:30am and couldn't get back to sleep) :)

So my new submission now that I am awake is NGC 3242 Ghost of Jupiter, saw it at the dark sky site in San Diego, but not here yet.

Man, what happened to all the forum traffic I thought we had?

Anyone else want to weigh in on this? I know you deep sky observers are out there...

M57 Ring Nebula.

Saw it for the first time in my 8" at the Dark Site last year.

Wish I had spent more time observing it but I was revved up because it was my first time
out at the dark site and I was over exited.

The Ring Nebula is indeed pretty nice Steve... I really hope someday I manage to spot the central star in it... I've heard that's pretty challenging even with decent aperture, because of it's similar magnitude to the faint nebulosity in the center. I've spotted central stars in a few other planetaries fairly easily, but the one in the Ring eludes me.
