Planning Software

Postby steve-pinney » Mon Feb 09, 2015 7:40 pm

Deep-Sky Planner 6, AstroPlanner or SkyTools 3. I have all 3 and probably don't use them as I should. My thought is pick one and just use it exclusively so I can become proficient at that particular program.

Looking to the club and asking what you use and maybe a quick why you use it. Looking for things like learning curve, how easy/hard to import AL lists, S&T lists etc.

Thanks!

I use SkyTools 3, but I can't really compare it to the other programs you mentioned. I've owned it for almost a year now, but I'm only now starting to use it for logging and planning. Once I sat down and decided to start learning it a month or so ago, I really started to like all it had to offer.

I use Sky Tools. It's a very powerful program but a bit cumbersome- probably because I haven't committed enough time to it. I don't have the astrotography package though and I'm now thinking about getting into that arena. I wonder how useful it is?

Thanks all! Looks like Sky Tools is the winner. Removed the other 2 from the desktop and started watching the tutorials and reading the manual. :)
