Observing Jupiter

by Chris Morisette

On September 26th, Jupiter and Earth were in Opposition, and Jupiter was the closest to Earth in the las 70 years. Opposition is when Earth and Jupiter line up, with the Earth between the sun and Jupiter. In this alignment, the Giant planet is directly opposite the sun in our sky making it an excellent time to observe Jupiter. Views of this beauty of the night sky  will be the best throughout August, September and October 2022.  Chris Morisette will guide us in how to observe Jupiter, and help us to make the best of our observing time. He will also point out the features of Jupiter which should be visible through a typical amateur telescope.

Speaker BioChris Morisette is an active member of the Houston Astronomical Society, North Houston Astronomy Club, and the Fort Bend Astronomy Club.  He is also a member of the University of Texas Astronomy Department Board of Visitors.  On clear Saturday nights,  you will find him volunteering at the George Observatory engaging with visitor and sharing his love of the night with them, while totally having fun operating the telescopes there.Debbie Moran head shot (2).JPG
