Bill Pellerin – Observing Variable Stars

Bill will talk about how to observe, both visually and with a CCD camera, variable stars and how to report the data you gather to the AAVSO. The goal of the presentation is to provide the NHAC members with enough information to begin taking variable star data of their own.

Bill Pellerin Bio. Bill's professional career included designing electronics for offshore aids to navigation and managing computer systems for several large corporations in Houston. Highlights as an amateur astronomer include:

  • Past President – Houston Astronomical Society, 2013-2014
  • Astronomical League award for best newsletter (HAS) 2012
  • Author – ‘’Observing Stellar Evolution” Astronomical League program
  • AAVSO (American Association of Variable Star Observers) member – over 3500 observations submitted since 12/97
  • Member – McDonald Observatory Board of Visitors
  • System management and operations (with Bill Flanagan and Walt Cooney) -- Madrona Peak Observatory (24” RC Optical telescope system)

Bill’s favorite telescope is a TeleVue refractor (not shown).
